On Friday 9th January, the Preparatory School welcomed back Darren Tinkler, from Chartwells, for a fun day of healthy food.
The day started off with an assembly for the entire School, based on the TV programme Ready Steady Cook. Unsuspecting members of the audience were called to the front of the Prep hall to take part in a 15 minute competition to prepare a healthy, well balanced meal using supplied ingredients.
The famous chefs were then called in and what a delight it was to learn that Mr Knight and Mrs Ashton were such accomplished cooks.
Mr Knight and his red team produced Flash Fried Meat Balls with Egg Noodles and Sweet and Sour Sauce, whilst Mrs Ashton and her green team prepared Oriental Salmon Fish Cakes with Steamed Lemon-Scented Rice and Chop Suey. The smell was wonderful. Read the rest of the report below and view our photographs.
Half way through the cooking timemembers of the audience were invited to come to the preparation areas and check on colour, cleanliness and general progress. As the countdown concluded, further members of the audience were selected to sample the dishes. THEN the voting commenced and it was extremely close, with the red team just pipping the greens at the post to take the title.
During the course of the rest of the day, each year group attended a workshop where nutition and exercise were discussed, exercise taken, smoothies made and sampledand ingredients and their properties debated and determined.
Thank you to Chartwells, Darren, Mrs O'Sullivan and Mrs Goodright for providing such an entertaining day for all the staff and pupils.
Mrs Mitchell
