WELLINGBOROUGH SENIOR SCHOOL PARENT ASSOCIATION
WSSPA, formely known as The Friends of Wellingborough School, was established in 1997 to form a link between the Senior School and its parents. Over the past 13 years the committee has organised various social events for parents and pupils to enjoy, not only in the Senior School but also in the whole School. We attend the New Pupils’ Service in September and the New Parents’ Meeting in June, to offer any help or answer questions new parents may have regarding their son's or daughter's transfer into the Senior School. We aim to support the School in whatever way we can, be it financially or in having a supportive presence at School functions. Meetings also provide an opportunity to hear reports from the Headmaster on aspects of School life and to consult and express parental viewpoints.
Funds have been raised for the School through our social events and these donations have, in the last 12 months, been used to purchase furniture for the Senior School Houses, books for the Library, signposts around the School and data projectors and more recently a new Minibus for the School. Also, funds have been released to purchase new curtains for the Senior School Hall and technical equipment for the Mathematics Department. Most recently funds have been allocated to support recycling, water fountains, Information Evenings on teenage issues and new Gym equipment.
Each year we hold the hugely popular Friends’ Summer Ball to which the sixth form leavers are invited; the organising Sub Committee publicises this event, with downloadable details available on the website, within the Parents Assocation page, under 'Friends - Summer Ball Info'.
The annual Stars in their Eyes competition is always a very enjoyable evening and in 2010 this was no exception. We are absolutely delighted with the ever-growing support we receive for this superb evening. This year, again, the event was held in our new Dining Hall, which is an excellent venue for an evening of outstanding performances. We were also delighted to welcome some of our Young Enterprise Students, selling their products and joinng in with the event. A full report can be seen in this section of the website or you can view by clicking here.
