During this year pupils will study the following:                                                            

A whole text

Non-fiction, including: reports and instructions, diagrams and illustrations

Fiction, including: description, character, register, audience, genre, narrative structure, play scripts, planning, drafting and editing

Grammar: verb tenses, singular/plural agreement, sentence structure, connectives, subheadings & paragraphs, parts of speech, singular and plural

Spelling & enrichment of vocabulary: weekly SuperSpell lists,  alternatives for “said” and “went”, expressive language, words relevant to curriculum and pupils’ writing

Punctuation:  full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, apostrophes

Discussion and co-operative skills, research skills, collecting and organising data

Year 4 Drama Festival – performing in short plays

Joined handwriting

Poetry – metre, rhyme, haiku, acrostics, performing poetry etc

Weekly comprehension exercises from a variety of sources
