During the year pupils will study the following:                
                                                 
Three or more whole texts

Spelling & vocabulary extension: weekly testing of SuperSpell word lists, upkeep of individual vocabulary books, technical words, homophones, the use of a dictionary, computer and thesaurus.

Comprehension: weekly exercises chosen from a range of sources, including the class reader.

Grammar: nouns (common, proper, concrete & abstract), verbs (1st, 2nd & 3rd person), pronouns, homonyms, phrases, double negatives, prepositions, idioms, possessive pronouns, revision of adjectives, adverbs, subject agreement, standard English, conjunctions, direct & reported speech, verb tenses (past, present, future), auxiliary verbs, verb forms (interrogative & imperative), word order, clauses, nouns, verbs, prefixes, suffixes and connectives.

Punctuation: full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, speech marks, paragraphing, commas, apostrophes for possession, apostrophes for omission, speech marks, quotation marks, paragraphing speech.

Drama: performing 'The Phantom Tollbooth'
