During the year pupils will study the following:                                                                 

Three or more whole texts 

Weekly spelling (using SuperSpell) and vocabulary work

Weekly comprehensions from a range of sources

Drama: performing an abridged Shakespeare play

Poetry (similes, metaphors, alliteration, rhythm, rhyme, onomatopoeia, line endings), writing & reciting

Grammar: revision of nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, prefixes, suffixes, idioms, active & passive verbs, conjunctions & connectives, complex sentences, sentence variety, reported & direct speech.

Punctuation: revision of full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks,  commas, speech marks, quotation marks, paragraphing speech, apostrophes for possesion & omission, semi-colons and brackets.
