Wellingborough School

Chapel Centenary 1907 – 2007

To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the School Chapel a week of special events was held including a stunning Flower Festival. The Chapel looked truly spectacular; all the decorations were designed and arranged by parents of the School under the watchful eye of Lisa Ellson. Every arrangement had a theme of an Ancient or Modern Hymn.

The celebrations began with Evensong, conducted by Bishop John Flack, Director of the Anglican Institute in Rome. The service included the dedication of a plaque representing ‘Ancient and Modern’ which had been created by 100 people, 30 pupils from the Senior School, 30 pupils each from the Prep and Pre-Prep schools and 10 Old Wellingburians.

The next day, every pupil in the School joined in a day of Gospel Singing, even several months later I still hear pupils singing the songs in the corridors! The celebrations continued with a concert given by the Oriana Singers, a ‘soiree’ of music, drama and readings performed by past and present pupils. The Visiting Music Teachers gave an amazing concert showing the pupils and parents their varied talents. The celebrations concluded with a superb concert from the Rushden Mission Brass Band that lifted the rafters.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed and those who made time to attend in what was a memorable tribute to the role of the Chapel as a source of inspiration at the heart of the School community.
