Wellingborough School

So many Schools today appear to portray an idyllic picture without blemish. We are not that pretentious but our unique quality is that we are a 3-18 co-educational Day school, not too big, not too small which does so much in a down-to-earth manner to promote the “family, communal feel”. We have many pupils who are with us for 15 years and pass through different phases along the way; others join successfully especially at 11, 13 and 16.

I am proud to be Headmaster of this unpretentious family School with its rich history and a tradition of a genuinely rounded education which stretches back over 400 years. We aim academically high but we are not an academic hothouse yet throughout the whole school we have high expectations of behaviour, commitment & appearance. The unique character engendered through having a site where nearly 900 3-18 year olds are educated is one which attracts comment from the many visitors whom we welcome. It is an environment which is special, where, we are told, there is an indefinable “feel” which puts visitors at ease when they see and hear the healthy daily relationship between pupils and teachers, a quality commented upon by recent Inspection reports; we are still small enough for all of our pupils to be known and treated as individuals. We are a fully co-educational Day School which has made a successful transition from being a boys’ Boarding School whilst retaining many of the characteristics and qualities which one often associates with a Boarding environment

We are more than a 5-day week School and there is an expectation that pupils of whatever ability throw themselves into their academic work yet play hard after School, on an evening and at weekends.

Our Aims for our young people regardless of their age :

To enrich their cultural experiences.

To engender values and a sense of right or wrong

To develop a healthy respect for others and oneself

To promote a close partnership between school and home

To cultivate links with business, commerce and outside agencies

To emphasise the distinction between confidence and arrogance

To achieve their best in the classroom

To make the most of the many opportunities which we provide

I invite you to follow the links which provide an accurate picture of the School, its academic character and its broad range of co-curricular sports and cultural activities

Parents of pupils currently attending the School will find information relating to important dates and recent correspondence. We know that they, their sons and daughters and my colleagues are all invaluable assets in the Wellingborough community.
