Match Reports 14/10/17: Rugby
These are match reports from last weekend's rugby fixtures against Bablake School.
On Saturday, the 1st XV played against Bablake, a quick start with two tries from Matt Clarke, led to a 14-0 lead. A further 3 tries were added by Joe Saxby and a few penalties, leaving the final score 41-19.
Saturday's match against Bablake was the toughest and closest game we have had so far this season, taking a narrow 2 point win. We entered the game with high spirits after a good run of previous wins, however shortly into the first half Bablake ran in a try after an overlap out wide. After this, it was much end to end rugby with the ball being turned over multiple times and after spending a long time in their half our first try came. Tom Pope put an exceptional grubber through after seeing Jonny Clarke making a run down the wing, Jonny chased the ball down and ran it into the corner to make the score 7-5 to us.
We continued to pin them back in their half and sure enough another try came, a turnover on the halfway lead to a line break and some strong offloads which allowed Henry Maloney to score just shy of the posts. The half ended 14-7.
The second half started slow and we really slacked off allowing Bablake to score another try early in, narrowing the score line. However, we soon bounced back and Eddie Carr managed to run in another try after a strong run in the oppositions 22 making the score 19-12. In the last 10 minutes Bablake piled on the pressure and pushed us right back into our 22, we remained strong in defence until a few penalties were given away and a yellow card came out. One man down, Bablake were able to expose us out wide and scored another try leaving the score at 19-17. However it was too little too late and we managed to secure the win and continue our strong form.
