Wellingborough has a proud reputation for sport and is highly regarded throughout the East Midlands. Every pupil participates in a full and diverse sporting programme, which offers a variety of activities and opportunities. All pupils from 13 - 18 are actively engaged in our Games programme to encourage and foster a positive attitude towards sport that will last after they have left the School.
For more information about teams, fixtures and results, please go to the Wellingborough School Sports portal.
Our major Games are:
Michaelmas: Rugby (Boys) and Hockey (Girls)
Lent: Football (Boys) & Netball (Girls)
Trinity: Cricket (Boys) and Tennis (Girls)
Participation in our major Games sports is compulsory for all pupils in Years 9 and 10. As pupils progress up the School, the major Games remain a priority but choice and flexibility increases to ensure all pupils maintain a minimum level of physical activity throughout the school week. The majority of pupils flourish in school or house teams whilst a number progress to county, regional, national and even Olympic level.
There is also opportunity for all pupils to maximise their potential via an extensive extra-curricular programme which is second-to-none. Pupils can participate in a rich range of sports commensurate with their abilities and every pupil should be able to find a skill to become engaged in. Teamwork is fostered, leaders are identified and moulded and pupils learn much about themselves and others; sport is a vehicle for personal development.
The School benefits from a team of elite and expert professional coaches, many of whom can boast their own impressive sporting achievements at national level. In addition, the majority of academic staff are committed to helping deliver the extensive sports programme.
